The V.I. Chapayev museum was built on a voluntary basis according to the project of architect M. Suslov not far from the V.I. Chapayev’s native lands. The museum was opened on May 9, 1974 at the initiative of the Chuvash Regional Committee of the AULYCL (All-Union Leninist Young Communist League) and the Chuvash Republican Museum of Local History.
In 1986, a house where V.I. Chapayev was born, was erected. It is adjacent to the museum and houses a historical and household exposition of everyday items of suburban Russian peasants from the late 19th century, which were also used by the Chapayev’s family.
Works of monumental and decorative art by the best artists of Chuvashia were used to design the museum building. The museum’s exposition tells about V.I. Chapayev, his companions-in-arm, representatives of the military dynasty, the V.I. Chapayev’s division, our countrymen, followers of V.I. Chapayev and the inheritors of the martial traditions, or how the image of V.I. Chapayev in art was created, etc.
