The Mariinsky Posad was named after Maria Feodorovna, the Empress and wife of Alexander II, who was loved by people. No wonder that this small town was once superior in all respects to Cheboksary, the capital of the Republic, and today it is included in the list of small historical towns of Russia. And the town absolutely deserves this status: the historical center of the Mariinsky Posad was built by wealthy local merchants and art patrons in the 18th—19th centuries. Many of its mansions and churches are preserved till nowadays. In addition, the Mariinsky Posad is also a wonderful and green city with the settled and peaceful atmosphere.
